Fabulous

rare
early
Edwardian
(around
1901-1905) front projection,
hard to find style to be worn over puffy hair or bun and secured with a
hat pin. The large, oval plateau hat to be worn tilting forward or
standing up on the back of the head to reveal the trimmings of black
silk ribbon bows and chartreuse ribbon. The original trimmings on top
of the fur hat of purple flowers, ivory ostrich plumes, black swirled
plume with gray and aubergine. A rare and famous label "Holt Renfrew
& Co Furrieers, Quebec and Toronto" and 2 insignias. This is a

interior of ruched pink satin revealed underneath, the brown velvet is ruched around the brim. A wide pink satin ribbon and large bow around the crown. A label inside the crown "Mrs Aurche Scherz, 659 E 165th St., Bronx, NY. Hat probably custom made for the owner. decorated with blue/white flowers and wide blue
plaid ribbon bow. The widest area, side to side is 17".,the crown is 2" high and 10" wide. The top of hat is in very good condition with only minor damage to the straw. The underbrim has 2 areas of 4" long of broken straw and one 5". The green ruched chiffon has some tears and the silk lining is shattered. It sounds like a lot of damage, however, when worn, I don't think it would be noticeable since the flaws are on the underside. It is a beautiful hat. and the condition is excellent with
the exception of some wear to the black velvet ribbon. Black glass beading, , beige and peach velvet flowers peek out among the black flowers, ribbon and ostrich feathers. Below the beading is beige lacy net trimmed in black that frames the face and continues to line the hat. This has been in my personal collection for many years. A medium pink or fuschia velvet teens' era hat is in
excellent condition. The brim is 4" wide, measuring 16" across. The crown is 26" around. A band of black velvet surrounds the crown, as does white feathers and a narrow band of fur. Some of the white feathers are gone. The underbrim is black velvet, with a 3/4" band of the fuschia. Lining is original , black, silky fabric and is intact. Colorful hats are difficult to find.
